Story

The film tells about the glorious short life of Private 254th Guards Rifle Regiment Alexander Matrosov . Following a fervent patriotic impulse, he volunteered for the front, was wounded in the first battle.

After recovery, he continued his service. He was appointed acting commander of the squad, and at the crucial moment of the battle he blocked the embrasure of the enemy bunker with his body, making it possible for his comrades to attack the fortified positions of the enemy.

For his feat, Alexander Matrosov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously). The name of Matrosov was assigned to his regiment, and he himself was forever enlisted in the lists of the 1st company of this unit.
