History
It was created near the village of Berezovka, Maloviskovsky district, Kirovohrad region during the construction of the uranium mining mine of the Eastern Mining and Processing Plant . The village is named after the geologist Nikolai Smolin , who discovered here in 1968 a powerful uranium deposit.
There is a uranium mine in the village [3] .
In January 1989, the population was9 976 people [4] .
On October 4, 2012, the ceremony of laying the first stone in the foundation of the future nuclear fuel plant was held in the village. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov and Director General of the Russian state corporation Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko [5] .
As of January 1, 2013, the population was 9764 people [6] .
