List of exoplanets discovered in 2009

In 2009, 81 exoplanets were discovered [1] . This year in planetology is notable for several important events. In February, using the COROT orbiting telescope, the smallest exoplanet COROT-7 b was discovered, the diameter of which is only twice the size of the earth. [2] .

On March 7, the Kepler orbital telescope was launched, the immediate goal of which is to search for extrasolar planets. [3]

In June, the first exoplanet candidate was discovered with the star PA-99-N2 outside the Milky Way - in the galaxy M31 . [4] In August, British astronomers discovered for the first time in the history of science an exoplanet ( WASP-17 b ), which has a retrograde orbit. [5] In the same month, the Spitzer space telescope recorded a collision between two exoplanets. [6] In October, a group of astronomers from the European Southern Observatory in Chile announced the discovery of 32 exoplanets at once [7] .

Also this year, a new method of detecting planets in other stars was invented - using spectral analysis. The low lithium content in the star's atmosphere can mean that the star has planets. [eight]

Open exoplanets and candidates for exoplanets

The table shows the approximate distances from exoplanets to their native stars in astronomical units (a. E.), I.e., in distances from the Earth to the Sun (1 a. E. = 1,496⋅10 8 km).

Sorted by increasing the ascension of native stars. The planets from the same system are sorted by increase in the orbital period . Yellow marked multiple planetary systems.
