Scomius ) or Skombr ( Σκόμβρος ή Σκόμβρον ) [3] ; according to Thucydides , the Strimon ( Struma ) river started on it [4] . Aristotle also indicates in Meteorology , according to him, Strimon, Ness ( Mesto ) and Gebr ( Maritsa ) flowed from Scombra [5] .
The modern name of the mountain is due to the male name Vitosha. The first mention of the rock massif appeared in the XI century. The tourist development of the area began on August 26, 1895: about 300 climbers climbed Cherni Vrykh.
