Geography
The district is located in the southwestern part of the Voronezh region. The district borders the Belgorod region, as well as the Kamensky , Podgorensky and Rossoshansky districts of the Voronezh region .
History
Most of the villages of the rural settlement were founded in the late XIX - early XX centuries as small villages without a permanent population with summer grazing horses and sheep.
Stepnyankoye rural settlement was formed in 1934 . The current border was established in 1964 . Stepnyansky rural settlement was formed by combining Stepnyansky and Nerovnovsky rural Soviets.

Five nationalities live on the territory of the settlement: Iranians, Turks, Tatars, Ukrainians and Russians. The Russian-speaking population is about 40% of the population and 59% are Ukrainians. The main language of communication is Ukrainian. The population is mainly engaged in agriculture. [10]
