History
It was created in 1931 - 1933 and was intended for the role of a tank of the "second echelon" or " mobilization tank", which could be assembled on the basis of mastered automobile units at automobile plants. The release of such a tank was supposed to be carried out in a threatened period before or during the war, in order to compensate for the lack of troops in more powerful, but also more complex tanks, such as the T-26 , with the deployment of production of which the USSR experienced difficulties at that time. In late 1932 - early 1933, two prototypes of the T-34 were built and tested.
Problems
Insufficient armament, consisting only of a 7.62 mm machine gun , was supposed to be replaced with a 20 mm automatic cannon designed by B. Shpitalny , but the latter was never ready for 1933. The tank was not accepted for service and further work on the tank was practically not carried out and completely stopped by the end of 1934 , since by that time it had been possible to establish a mass production of T-26.
