Prior to version 1.6, it was completely free.

Features
The program has a multi-document interface with tabs for viewing multiple documents [1] [2] , displays thumbnails of pages on the sidebar [1] [3] , allows you to create your own bookmarks [1] [3] , adjust the brightness, contrast, gamma when displaying a document [4] , and automatically adjust the contrast of thumbnails [5] . To display text documents in the application settings indicate the font, its size, color, defines the rules for showing paragraphs [3] . The program supports three types of text layer search, all search results are displayed in a list [1] .
The STDU Viewer interface is localized for several languages, including Russian.
The program allows you to rotate pages in a document in increments of 90 degrees, which can be convenient for reading from a monitor installed in portrait position [3] , and also makes it possible to correct errors of incorrectly scanned pages. Built-in function to restore the session when you restart the program. There are settings for working with touch screen devices . [6] Pages of an open document can be exported to a text document or image [4] .
The program allows you to print documents, including most of the print-protected PDF files.
The size of the installation file is 2.2 MB, the installed program is about 7 MB (for comparison, the size of the Adobe Reader X installer is 37.2 MB, and the installed Adobe Reader X takes about 110 MB).
Development
The first version of STDU Viewer was version 1.0.60, released on September 13, 2007 . The program supported PDF formats (with support for embedded hyperlinks), DjVu and TIFF.
Starting with version 1.0.76, Unicode is supported. Printing documents first became available in version 1.4.7. Since version 1.5.597, developers support a portable version of the program.
Weaknesses
It does not support all common electronic document formats. Help files CHM , LIT, DOC, and HTML are not supported [7] . When you print a PDF document, a large temporary file is created, and this leads to slow printing on some printers. Text is converted to graphics when printing, which significantly increases printing time.
Critical Reviews
STDU Viewer has gained recognition for its “omnivorous nature” and can be considered as an alternative to the set of programs Adobe Acrobat [2] , WinDjView and Microsoft XPS Viewer, being a candidate for the role of a universal e-book viewer [5] [8] .
He entered the list of 50 best free programs of 2009 [9] and the best programs for students [10] .
At the same time, there is an opinion that the program is not a complete replacement for applications specializing in viewing individual formats, such as Foxit Reader for PDF, WinDjView for DjVu and FastStone Image Viewer for viewing images, losing them speed and functionality.
