Litigation
From a family of Moroccan descent. He studied business in London , had a master's degree (1995), and since 1996 came into the view of the French police due to ties with Islamic extremists in the UK . Then he was in training camps in Taliban Afghanistan (1998-1999) and Malaysia . From February to May 2001, Mussaui studied at the flight school in Norman ( Oklahoma ). In August 2001, three weeks before the events of September 11 , he was arrested on charges of violating US immigration laws - in a flight school in Minnesota , where Mussaui learned to pilot large-sized passenger aircraft. Piloting did not take place: due to the arrest of Mussaui, one of the four brigades of al-Qaida terrorists was understaffed - four people instead of five.
In December 2001, Mussaui was indicted for the September 11 attacks. In January 2002, Mussaui declared his innocence. In March, the prosecution informed the court that it would seek the death penalty. In June, the court allowed Mussaui to represent himself in court. In July 2002, Mussaui pleaded guilty, but a week later refused his confession. In February 2003, the judge adjourned the process indefinitely. In April 2005, Mussaui again pleaded guilty. Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and family members of those killed in the attacks gave evidence in court. Mussaui's lawyers said he was sick with schizophrenia , the defendant denied this. In May 2006, the jury issued a verdict - life imprisonment, or rather, six life sentences without the right to early release. A Moroccan terrorist will serve such a long term sentence in the ADX Florence federal prison , Supermax class, an ultra-strict prison in the city of Florence ( Colorado ).
Conclusion Mode
Mussaui serves his sentence in a concrete cell with a slit-like horizontal window. Five days a week, he is taken out to the courtyard for an hour and a half, or rather, to the “yard cell”, where at that moment there is no one but him. The rest of the time, he sits on a concrete chair at a concrete table or lies on a concrete bed with a thin mattress. From classes, he can write and read, nothing more. If he behaves well, he will someday be given a black-and-white television with educational programs and a deck of cards for playing solitaire. Every movement of a prisoner is monitored by a video camera. .
