Biography
Hiroma grew up with 5 sisters at her parents' farm. As a teenager, she helped her parents, and in her free time she played in the fields with her sisters. For this reason, the countryside is so often depicted in her manga. As a child, Hiroma was a carefree child who wanted to find out what was outside the farms. Reading and compiling all manga genres has always been one of her favorite hobbies; the influence of love for the Kinnikuman manga led to the dream of the perfect mangaka. Interestingly, as a child, she loved to read the magazines Shonen Jump and Shonen Gangan , who later published her manga Gin no Saji .
After graduating from the agricultural school, Hiroma promised to help her parents manage the family farm for 7 years, if she could regularly attend oil painting classes in the city. Hiromu later decided to move to Tokyo to continue her journey to the dream of becoming a mangaka. Before leaving, she vowed to her parents that she would return home only when she could earn a living by drawing manga. Her first work began with the Doujins, which her friends helped her to do, the next work, Juushin Enbu , she created together with her friends Shishi and Zhang Fei Long. At the same time, Zhang became the prototype for one of the heroines of the manga [1] [2] , as conceived by Hiram.
The first work of Hiram Arakawa, which she managed to sell, was the manga “4-panel theater” (4koma), created for Gamest magazine, in which she portrayed parodies of games. By the way, at that time the mangaka used the pseudonym Edmund Arakawa. She was later hired as an assistant to Hiroyuki Eto , the author of the famous manga Mahoujin Guru Guru [3] . The mangaki’s own career began with the publication of the manly Stray Dog [2] in the Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine . This work won a prize at the 9th 21st Century Shonen Gangan Award [1] .
In 2000, the head of her next manga, Shanghai Youma Kikai ( 上海 妖魔鬼怪 Demons of Shanghai ) [4], was published in the same magazine. In July 2001, the first chapter of Fullmetal Alchemist [5] appeared in Monthly Shonen Gangan . This manga made her famous: in 2004, Steel Alchemist received the Shogakukan Publishing House Prize as the best in the Shionen category [6] . The manga release ended in 2010 , according to its plot two anime series and two full - length animated films were shot .
In 2011, Nikkei Entertainment magazine published a ranking of the most commercially successful mangak of our time. Arakawa took eighth place in the ranking. [7]
