Founded in 2002 by the former President of the Bank of Latvia, Einar Repse . In 2002 , during the election campaign, New Time promised to fight corruption and tax evasion. In accordance with the promises of the New Time, the collection of taxes to the Latvian budget should have increased to 400 million lats (about $ 750 million), which would increase the financing of many programs and reduce taxes. In addition, the New Age program includes the right-oriented reforms of the health care and education systems, such as the conversion of higher education to a fully paid basis.
At the elections of the Eighth Diet on October 5, 2002, the party won 23.9% of the vote and 26 out of 100 seats in the Diet, forming the largest faction. She formed a government coalition together with three other parties, and Einar Repse took the post of prime minister . In January 2004, the coalition collapsed and Repse resigned, retaining the post of party leader. Two deputies of the Seimas, who founded the New Democrats party, left the party after this.
The party was in opposition until October 2004, when it joined the coalition government of Aigars Kalvitis . Left the coalition after the scandal associated with the purchase of votes in local elections in Jurmala , which is associated with one of the coalition partners, the First Party . The new time demanded that the First Party retire from the coalition, and on April 13, 2006 , having been refused, all the ministers resigned from the New Times .

New time is part of the European People's Party , since 2004, represented by 2 deputies in the European Parliament.
In the elections of the Ninth Seimas, the party ranked third with 16.38% of the votes and 18 mandates, remaining the largest opposition party.
August 6, 2011 joined the party "Unity" .
