Biography

He became famous at the age of 20 when he won the 1949 Dalarna County Championship . He first appeared in the Swedish ski team in 1954 at the World Championships in Falun , and ended his career in 1964 after the Olympic Games in Innsbruck .

Twice won in Vasaloppet (1955 and 1960).

For the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , Yernberg was invited by the Japanese self-defense forces in the winter of 1969-70 to help him choose a track for biathlon .

Preparation

Sixten is known for his enormous stamina. He regarded the Swedish team as a vacation. He introduced a very serious training in Sweden and trained on the verge of self-torture. For example, he parked his car 100 km from the training camp and fled to him on skis. He did not like to miss a day without training. In one start, he had a fever and coughed up blood, but still finished the 50 km race. [4] With this slightly insane behavior, he set the standard for future generations of Swedish skiers. So, Gunde Svan admitted that Sixten was a model for his preparation.

It seemed that he (Sixten) did not like his own body and tried to punish him in various ways

- Gunde Swan [5]

.

His motto in the competition was: "Start at maximum and accelerate."
