Biography

Gustav German von Alvensleben was born on January 17, 1827 in Rathenow , the second son of the general from the cavalry of Gebhart Karl Ludolph von Alvensleben . Educated in the Berlin and Potsdam Cadet Corps .

As an officer of the General Staff, he took part in the wars of Prussia with Denmark in 1864 , in which he distinguished himself during the assault on the Duppel fortifications, with Austria in 1866 and with France in 1870-1871 .

He made the last campaign at the head of the 15th Lancer Regiment, participating with him with great success in affairs near Metz , where he was wounded. For this campaign, Gustav Hermann von Alvensleben was awarded the Order of Pour le Mérite .

Then, successively commanding the cavalry brigade and division, Alvensleben in 1886 received the 5th Army Corps in command. In 1874 he was promoted to major general and in 1880 to lieutenant general . In 1886, he received the rank of general from the cavalry and headed the 13th (Württemberg) army corps.

In 1890, Alfelsleben retired and was granted the Order of the Black Eagle .

Gustav Hermann von Alvensleben died on February 1, 1905 in the castle of Möckmühl ( Heilbronn , Baden-Württemberg).
