Proceedings
Soran’s main work is considered to be his essay “ On Women's Diseases ” ( Gynekaia ), which remained the main source for obstetrics, gynecology, and pediatrics until the 17th century. He described methods of contraception and abortion, a complex of early signs of pregnancy and its course, methods of caring for infants and the principles of pediatrics.
Soran also wrote a number of other works: “ On Acute and Chronic Diseases ” (translated into the 5th century by Latin by Celius Aurelian ( lat. De morbis acutis & chronicis )), “ On Fractures ” ( Greek περί σημείιων καταγμάτων ), “ On the bandages ”, etc. Soran’s activity in the field of psychiatry is considered especially outstanding. In one of his works, he describes mental illnesses and talks about treatment methods: he suggests acting on patients with calm conversations, gymnastics, inducing them to mental activity and even public speaking. Soran argues with other authors who offer barbaric methods of therapy: locking in a dark room, tying, beating, treatment with alcohol and loud music.
In his writings he made wide references to Hippocrates and wrote his biography.
