"…I do not know how to explain it. I met Maria Pavlovna in the restoration workshop, then we had a son, and despite the fact that he, like every young man, had a desire for an easy life, we still managed to “fall in love” with him for restoration. Now the grandson followed in his footsteps. Thus, the whole family, the whole environment - on the part of my wife, Maria Pavlovna, all truly hereditary restorers and are engaged in applied art. Our children grew up among restorers, next to people who loved not only to admire, but to preserve, repair, darn fabrics and sewing Old Russian. They themselves were brought up - both son and grandson - in this new environment of our restoration. This hobby entered the blood of our entire family. I will say one thing: before entering the All-Russian Center, I was engaged in the restoration of the house since 1938. When he came to Ordynka in 1945 on the advice of Alexei Nikolayevich Svirin , the main curator of the Tretyakov Gallery and a university professor, he remembered his words: “Victor, they only take hereditary people there, only their own!” And I really came “a stranger”. But his work quickly gained respect from senior, hereditary restorers. They treated me kindly. So did my wife, who entered the restoration a year after me — her native aunt was a goldsmith first, and then a leading restorer in old Russian sewing, Maria Pavlovna developed under her leadership, having acquired a love for rare monuments. Thus, fate simply brought us together - we became a solid restoration family, from which two generations of restorers have already emerged, and quite good ones. “My son and my grandson are restorers not by salary, but by the depth of education and understanding of what restoration is, what history is, what our Russian culture is.” [3]
