Walshaerts valve gear (although it was patented under the name “ Walschaert valve gear ” with an error in the author’s name) is a type of steam train invented by Belgian engineer Egide Walschart in 1844 (patented in 1848) year ). In 1849, a similar steam distribution mechanism was patented by German engineer Edmund Heisinger von Waldegg ( German: Edmund Heusinger von Waldegg ; 1817-1886), because of this, this steam distribution mechanism can be called both Walshart and Geisinger (this version of the name was very common in the USSR and, to date, in Germany), and sometimes even completely - Walshart-Geisinger. In 1870, this mechanism was first used on a steam locomotive , and since the 1900s it began to be used on the vast majority of steam locomotives right up to the sunset of the steam locomotive era.
