Justification of Symbols
The flag was developed on the basis of the coat of arms of the city of Kokhma, where the language of the heraldic symbols reflects the features of the region.
The central figure of the flag is a reared horse, allegorically speaking of the courage and indomitable will of the Kokhomans, who repeatedly repelled the attacks of foreign invaders - from the Mongol-Tatar yoke in the 13th century to Polish intervention in the 17th century.
The main craft of the inhabitants of Kokhma (then the village of Rozhdestveno) in the XVII-XVIII centuries was manual flax weaving. In 1719, at the direction of Peter I , the first “linen factory” was founded here. In 1822, the Yasyuninsky hand-made cotton factory was founded, which was later transformed into the "Association of Yasyuninsky manufactories." Being a well-established textile center, in 1925 Kokhma received the status of a city, but for many years remained as if a suburb of the regional center. Only on April 10, 1998 Kokhma became an independent municipal entity.
This is reflected in the emblem with a symbolic city key, which, in turn, “deciphers” the occupation of the Kokhomsk residents: the crosswise shuttles in the key holder indicate the textile industry (the largest enterprise in the city is Kokhma-textile, JSC); a key beard of two intertwined rafters personify Stroymashina OJSC - the second largest city-forming enterprise.
Red color (scarlet) is a symbol of courage, selflessness, heroism, fair struggle and life.
White color (silver) is a symbol of nobility, purity.
Yellow color (gold) is a symbol of generosity, wealth, justice.
