Biography
Born on September 30 (October 13), 1915 in the village of Vishnopol, now Talnovsky District, Cherkasy Region ( Ukraine ). Ukrainian. Since 1924 he worked in agriculture. In 1933 he graduated from 7 classes of a school in his native village, in 1938 - the Uman College of Agricultural Mechanization. He worked as an assistant to a senior mechanic at the Kamensk Machine-and-Tractor Station .
In the army since October 1938. In 1939 he graduated from the Voronezh school of junior aviation specialists, until August of that year he served as an aircraft mechanic in the combat units of the Air Force (in Voronezh ). In 1940 he graduated from the Melitopol Military Aviation School of pilots and observer pilots. He served as a navigator in the combat units of the Air Force (in the Odessa Military District ).
Member of the Great Patriotic War: in June 1941-May 1942 - navigator of the 210th bomber aviation regiment, in May-December 1942 - navigator of the 366th separate reconnaissance aviation regiment, in January-August 1943 - navigator of the 288th bomber aviation regiment, in August 1943-May 1945 - navigator of an air squadron and navigator of the 650th bomber aviation regiment.
He fought on the South , North Caucasus , Transcaucasia , 2nd Baltic and 1st Belorussian fronts. He participated in defensive operations in the south of Ukraine, in the Donbass and the Don, in the battle for the Caucasus , the liberation of the Kuban, in Riga and Berlin operations. During the war, made 311 sorties (197 sorties - on a Su-2 bomber and 114 sorties - on a Pe-2 bomber), personally shot down 3 enemy planes in air battles.
For courage and heroism shown in the battles, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 18, 1945, Major Franchuk Karp Yakovlevich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 8879).
After the war, he continued to serve in the combat units of the Air Force (in the Transcaucasian Military District ). In 1950 he graduated from the Krasnodar Higher Air Force Officer Naval School. Since 1951 - on staff posts in the Air Force.
In July 1952-July 1953 he participated in the hostilities in Korea as chief of intelligence - deputy chief of staff of the 216th Fighter Aviation Division.
After returning from Korea, he served as deputy chief of staff of the air division at the command post (in the Northern Military District ). Since August 1954, Lt. Col. K. Ya. Franchuk - retired.
He lived in the village of Vishnopol, now Talnovsky district, Cherkasy region ( Ukraine ). He died on November 29, 1956. He was buried in the village of Vishnopol .
