Botswana participated in the 9th Summer Olympics . Having made its debut at the Games in Moscow in 1980 , the country subsequently participated in all the Summer Games. In total, they were represented by Botswana 47 men and 2 women who participated in competitions in boxing, athletics, sailing and swimming. Botswana sent the largest delegations to the 2004 and 2008 Olympics (11 each). The National Olympic Committee of Botswana was established in 1978 , recognized by the IOC in 1980 .

Botswana athletes did not participate in the Winter Olympics . The only Olympic award (silver) for Botswana was won by Nigel Amos, who finished second in the 800m race at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London .
