History
The city of Jozefow was founded by the Cracow Kasteljan Andrzej Potocki on the territory of the village of Kolchin in 1687. The city was immediately granted Magdeburg Law . The name of the city comes from the name of one of the sons of Andrzej - Jozef Potocki .
Yuzefov is the site of several military battles [1] [2] . During the Polish uprising of 1830-31 near the town of Jozefow in a battle with the Serawski corps, the Don and Hopers lured the enemy with a false retreat under artillery fire. Then Grekov’s regiment No. 5 and Khopersky regiment, along with Kazan dragoons, overturned the Polish cavalry, drove the enemy into the Vistula , and then, pursuing, chopped down two infantry battalions and took 2,000 prisoners. Broken Polish troops crossed the border of Austria and Prussia and surrendered there. Here, Vladimir Dal distinguished himself in battle.
In 1900, 2,928 people lived in Yuzefov, there was a post office and a telegraph .
