Marine Day

“The Day of the Marine Corps of the Russian Federation” is a relatively young holiday , despite the fact that the history of the Russian marines begins at the beginning of the 18th century and goes back over three centuries. Tsar Peter the Great issued a decree on the creation of the first " regiment of sea ​​soldiers " in the Russian Empire . It happened on November 16 (27), 1705 ^[2] .

It was on the day when this decree of the Russian empire was issued, and it was prescribed (according to the order of the Commander- in- Chief of the Navy of the Russian Federation, Admiral of the Fleet Felix Nikolayevich Gromov No. 253 of July 15, 1996 ) to celebrate the Day of the Marine Corps of Russia.

In 2008, the governor of Primorsky Krai, Sergey Mikhailovich Darkin, in his congratulations to the Marines on the Day of Marines of Russia, said:

You represent the elite of the Russian armed forces. Marines inscribed a lot of glorious victories in the history of the Russian state, participated in the most responsible battles, showing special resilience, courage, heroism. No wonder the slogan for you was fixed: “Where the marines are - there is victory!”. Marines fought in the Northern and Crimean wars, smashed the German fascist invaders, performed their international duty in Angola, Vietnam, Syria, Egypt, Guinea, Afghanistan and other countries ^[3] .
