Small anti-submarine ship (abbreviated as: MPK ) is a subclass of anti-submarine ships according to the Soviet naval classification. Designed for search, tracking and destruction of submarines in the near sea and coastal zone. ^[1] In NATO countries, small anti-submarine ships are classified as anti-submarine corvettes . corvettes ASW (anti-submarine warfare) .

History

Small anti-submarine ships became a logical development of the projects of protection boats for the water area ^[2] : small hunters of the type MO-4 and projects 199 and 201 ; large hunters of projects 122 , 122A , 122 bis (later reclassified to IPC ^[3] ). They are intended for anti-submarine warfare in the near sea and coastal zones ^[2] ^[4] .

The first type of small anti-submarine ships specially developed in the USSR was Project 204 (63 - 66 units were built in 1960-1968) ^[5] ^[6] . The Black Sea Fleet of the Navy of the USSR had 42 IPCs (including projects 1124, 1141, 204) ^[7] .

A further development of the IPC subclass became small anti-submarine ships of Project 1124 and its modifications (71 units were built in the IPC version).

Technical Data

(For example, IPC project 204) Displacement 555 tons, length 58.3 m, width 8.1 m, draft 3.09 m, maximum speed 35 knots, crew 54 people. The armament consisted of 4 torpedo tubes, 2 bombers and a two-gun 57-mm gun mount ^[8] .
