Biography
He graduated from the art college in Milan with a degree in creative director, after which he opened an atelier under his own name. Having hired Domenico Dolce , he taught him the basics of the fashion industry. In 1982, together with Dolce, he opened a studio that was engaged in consulting services in the field of fashion, where initially each of them worked under his own name. Later, fashion designers, in order to save money, joined forces under a single brand Dolce & Gabbana . In 1985, as part of Milan Fashion Week, they presented their first collection of women's clothing and opened their own store in Milan the following year. In 1987, they presented their first collection of knitwear . In 1990, they created a collection of fashionable clothes for men.
In 2000, 15 years after the beginning of a life together and a career, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana publicly revealed the nature of their personal relationships - they were lovers for a long time [1] . In 2004, they broke up, and since then adhere exclusively to business relationships.
In March 2013, Stefano Gabbana was named by Forbes Magazine as one of the 1000 richest people on the planet (at 736th place with a fortune of $ 2 billion) and the 11th largest state in Italy [2] .
Tax evasion
In May 2009, the Italian government accused the owners of Dolce & Gabbana , who transferred assets of approximately 249 million euros to Luxembourg, to the holding company Gado , in 2004-2006 of concealing income. On June 19, 2013, Stefano Gabbana and his business partners were found guilty of avoiding the declaration of income of 1 billion euros ($ 1.3 billion). The court sentenced both fashion designers to one year and eight months in prison and a personal fine of 500 thousand euros (in accordance with Italian laws, they will not be in prison, since a sentence of less than three years is commuted to house arrest or community service) [3] . Designers decided to appeal the verdict, but on April 30, 2014 the court of appeal upheld the lower court decision [4] .
