Kiev Society of the Chronicler Nestor

One of the books published with the participation of society.

The Kiev society of the chronicler Nestor - founded in 1872 on the basis of a scientific circle in Kiev , officially opened in January 1873 . In 1874 it came under the jurisdiction of Kiev University . Since 1879 he published the “Readings in the Historical Society of Nestor the Chronicler” (abbreviated CHIONL, 24 volumes until 1914 ). The new charter was adopted in 1898 . Closed in 1917 ^[1] , but in 1921 it resumed activity as part of the Historical and Philological Department of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine . At the beginning of the 30s it was liquidated.

Goals and Activities

The goals of society are defined as “Promoting the development of Russian historical science: the history of political and ecclesiastical history, the history of literature and law, archeology, numismatics, etc., as well as universal history ...”. The society also studied ancient monuments and contributed to their protection.
