The cheapest Apple MacBooks on December 20, 2008 were presented in an aluminum casing created using Unibody technology (an aluminum casing is cut from a single piece of metal), but at WWDC -2009 this model was transferred to the MacBook Pro class with an improvement in some features.
As of May 2010, the model range of this class was presented by one laptop with several different characteristics. The case is made of white polycarbonate. With dimensions of 33.03 × 23.17 × 2.74 cm and weight of 2.13 kg, the MacBook offered the following set of hardware components: a GeForce 320M graphics card, 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 13 " LCD screen with a resolution of 1280 × 800, a network card with a speed of 10/100/1000 megabits, wireless communications ( Bluetooth , Wi-Fi ), USB , digital (optical) and analog audio input and audio output, etc.

Original Polycarbonate Model
The original MacBook, released May 16, 2006, was available in black and white with a Core Duo processor , 945GM chipset and an integrated 667 MHz graphics chip. Later it was changed to Core 2 Duo and the 965GM chipset with an integrated 800 MHz GMA X3100 graphics card. The sale of the black polycarbonate version of the MacBook was discontinued in October 2008 after the start of aluminum MacBook sales.
The MacBook was one of the first models (the first was the MacBook Pro ) into which Apple introduced the MagSafe power connector.
Design
Although the MacBook mainly follows the industry standard PowerBook G4 design, it was the first Apple laptop to use standards like a glossy screen, a recessed keyboard, and a non-mechanical latch. In 2007, the keyboard received several changes, in particular, it became similar to the keyboard that came with the iMac , adding the same keyboard shortcut to control multimedia and removing the built-in virtual numeric keypad, as well as the Apple logo from the command buttons.
Ports
Ports are located on the left edge: Kensington lock , audio input / output, two USB 2.0 ports , FireWire 400, mini-DVI , Gigabit Ethernet and MagSafe power connector.
In front is the IR receiver for Apple Remote ; from the right edge - only a CD drive.

Criticism and Shortcomings
It is known that the rubber base of universal MacBooks exfoliates. Apple noticed this as a flaw and promised to replace the bottom for free, with or without a guarantee. Some consumers also reported defects on their LCDs in mid-2010-2011 models. [1] Among the most common symptoms are the following: the picture is distorted, artifacts occur and, of course, horizontal or vertical stripes appear. [2]
MagSafe power adapters are also subject to frequent breakdowns. After the lawsuit, Apple promised to replace these adapters for US residents. [3] [4]
Some MacBooks were vulnerable to iSeeYou , which potentially allows their iSight cameras to record a user without his knowledge. [5] [6]
