Biography
Born in 1915 in a peasant family.
In 1932 he graduated from the Surazh Pedagogical College, in 1933 - from the Leningrad Commodity Research Faculty. He worked at the 6th vegetable plant ( Leningrad ). In the Red Army since 1935. In 1937 he graduated from the Kharkov school of military pilots. Participated in the fighting on the river. Khalkhin-Gol ( 1939 ), in the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939 - 1940 . Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1940 .
In the battles of World War II, from June 1941 , the aviation commander of the 54th Near Bomber Aviation Regiment ( 60th Mixed Aviation Division , Western Front ), Lieutenant Balmat, on a Pe-3 twin-engine fighter-interceptor, made 16 sorties by December 1941 , shot down 2 enemy aircraft. On December 2, 1941 , carrying out a combat mission in the area of the village of Kamenka, he shot down a third enemy aircraft, but his fighter was also shot down. Having ordered the navigator to leave the car, Balmat took the burning interceptor away from the village of Marfino and saved its inhabitants at the cost of his life. Presented to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union in December 1941 , awarded June 26, 1991 posthumously.
He was awarded two Orders of Lenin (04/04/1940, 06/26/1991), the medal "For Courage" (11/17/1939) [1] .
Memory
He was buried in the village of Marfino, Moscow Region. There is a monument on the grave. At the crash site is an obelisk.
