Etymology

The species name "dianthum" means "two-flowered", perhaps this is due to the typical number of flowers in the inflorescence of plants in the wild [3] .

Biological Description

It resembles the lighter and more elegant form of Paphiopedilum parishii . These two species differ in that of Paph. dianthum is a white sail , not greenish. Also, species differ in the nuances of the shape of the lip [4] .

Relatively large herbs. It forms large curtains, up to 15 shoots in each.

Escape of the sympodial type, hidden by the bases of 4-6 leaves.

The leaves are leathery, dark green, 20-50 cm long, 2-5 cm wide.

Chromosomes : 2n = 26 [3] .

Range, environmental features

Southern China , the northern provinces of Vietnam ( Kaobang , Khazyang , Hoabin , Laityou , Laokai , Shonla ).

Coniferous, mixed and deciduous, evergreen, humid forests on highly eroded, crystalline limestone on Elev. M. 600-1450 Fl. September - November.

Lithophyte on rocky massifs of crystalline limestone in coniferous, mixed and deciduous evergreen moist forests, at heights of 600 to 1450 meters above sea level [5] .

Temperature range: 12-23 ° C. Shady habitats. Soil: crushed stone, moss, deciduous litter. It blooms in September and November. It was noted in the places of growth together with Paphiopedilum micranthum , Paphiopedilum hirsutissimum var. esquirolei , Paphiopedilum malipoense, and Paphiopedilum henryanum [3] .

It belongs to the number of protected species (I CITES appendix).

This species is on the verge of extinction and is listed in the International Red Book

In Culture

The temperature group is moderate.

Light : 1500-1700 FC [6] .

Relative humidity : from 50% and above.

Planting in plastic and ceramic pots with several drainage holes on the bottom, providing uniform drying of the substrate.

The frequency of watering is selected so that the substrate inside the pot does not have time to dry completely.

According to some collectors is a calcephilus [7] . The main components of the substrate: see article Paphiopedilum .
