Rice sprinkled with furikake seasoning
Furikake ( Japanese 振 り 掛 け , or ふ り か け ) is a dry seasoning used in Japanese cuisine that is sprinkled with rice dishes . It usually consists of dried and chopped fish , sesame seeds , finely chopped seaweed , sugar , salt and monosodium glutamate . Other flavoring ingredients are often added to the seasoning, for example, katsuobushi , salmon , railing , powder miso , eggs , vegetables . Seasoning is sometimes sharp, may have a slight aftertaste of fish. Different types of furikake can have a different color. The simplest example of furikake is the sesame homashio salt.
