Alexander I (King of Epirus)

Alexander I ( Alexander Molossky ; 370 BC. E. - 331 BC. E. ) - the ruler of Epirus (from 350 BC. E. ) from the dynasty of Perrid ; son of Neoptolem I , brother of Olympiad , uncle and at the same time son-in-law (sister's husband) Alexander the Great , a great-uncle of Pyrrhus .

Biography

Alexander was brought up at the court of the rulers of Macedonia . In 350 BC. e. King Philip II dismissed his uncle Arriba and gave the epirus throne to Alexander.

In 337 BC. er Olympics left Philip II and arrived at her brother's court, prompting him to go to war with Macedonia. Relations between the powers were settled by the marriage of Alexander I with his niece - the daughter of Philip Cleopatra . At the wedding feast, Philip was slain by a certain Pausanias , whose hand might have been sent by Perrida.

In 334 BC. er The Greeks from Tarente called upon Alexander I to help in the struggle with the native inhabitants of Lucania and Bruttius . He won in 332 BC. er concluded an agreement with the Romans . Nevertheless, the Italic campaign cost him his life: the treachery of the hostages led to his death in an unequal battle with the Lucans .
