Targyn nama

Targyn-nama is one of the first people in the Altai mythology created by Ulgen , from whose ribs he created his wife and named her Muntushaydi.

This couple was expelled from Aruun-syudyun (the place where the first people lived, where the souls of the deceased were kept until the general court) and cursed to Meydere for having tasted the fruit under the name Uyungash (wife’s berry) from a tree specially grown by Erlik to seduce people. Maidere cursed the man and predicted that all his affairs would be difficult, the children who would go away from him would be thieves, crooks, swindlers, all kinds of illnesses would attack him, and his whole life would not be a joy. He also predicted his wife various diseases and especially severe pain during childbirth.

Having expelled people, Ulgen , nevertheless, showed them all herbs and fruits suitable for eating. But the stocks that man had prepared for winter were consumed by animals, and then Targyn-nama began to drive them away with a stick. Offended animals complained to Ulgen , who gathered a court to judge the animals and man. He ordered everyone to eat what is appropriate for him, and ordered a person to kill animals, eat their meat and dress in animal skins. After this trial, the animals moved away from the person and began to treat him with fear.
