Description

Large beetles, whose body length, together with the head horn, reaches 62 mm. The body is very large, strongly convex, oval in shape, of dark, red-brown or brown coloration. The head is small, clypeus anteriorly narrowed, with a straight or somewhat notched front edge. Eye lobes are short and wide. The horn on the head of the male is very long, directed forward and slightly up, on the top once or twice bifurcated; the female has a triple tubercle instead of a horn on her head. Antennae 10-segmented.

The pronotum is transverse, convex, of almost the same width as the elytra , in the male with the horn directed forward and forked at the apex, and the female has a small indentation in its place. Elytra wide, oval.

The legs are very strong, rather long. The front legs of the male are somewhat elongated.

Reproduction

Larvae develop in wood.

Area

The area of ​​the genus covers Japan , Korea , all of East China , Indochina , the Malacca Peninsula , the Philippine Islands , Borneo .
