History
Wakulla district was formed in 1843 from the district of Leon . The exact origin of the name is unknown. According to one version, the district received its name from the word in the language of the Indians Timukua . It is possible that it contains the word "kala", meaning "source of water" in some Indian languages. [four]
In Gloria Janoda's book The Other Florida, she describes the terrible poverty of the district in the period 1900-1966, when the district did not even have a doctor, and the local newspaper was published once a month and only with the help of a mimeograph . [5] Nowadays there are offices of several doctors, supermarkets, a golf resort, as well as seafood trade in the district. [6]
