Vannius

Vannius , leader of the Quads . At the beginning of the 1st century AD e. was the head of the “Kingdom of Vannia” ( Regnum Vannianum ) - the first in the history of an independent political structure in the territory of modern western Slovakia .

After the leader of the Marcomaniac Marobod in 19 AD e. was overthrown by the nobility, and he had to ask the Romans for refuge; the Romans accepted him with honor and settled in Ravenna. As Tacitus writes,

“The fate of Catualda turned out to be similar ... expelled by the forces of the Germans ... and accepted by the Romans, he was sent to the Forum Julius ... Accompanying the one and the other barbarians, so that their presence did not violate the tranquility of the peaceful provinces, are located beyond the Danube, between the rivers Mar and Kuz and to their Tsar given by the Vannius of the Quad ”
