The county was located in the north of the Arkhangelsk province, at the confluence of the Mezen and Vashka rivers.
History
The Ust-Vash district with a center in the village of Ust-Vashka was formed on March 2, 1918 from 6 volosts of the Mezen district of the Arkhangelsk province (Vozhgorskaya, Koynasskaya, Leshukonskaya, Olemskaya, Pyskaya and Tsenogorskaya) and 2 volosts of the Yarensky district of the Vologda province (Vazhgortsky and. In 1920, in the Leshukonsky volost of the Ust-Vash uyezd, from the settlements of Verkhnekonskoye, Leshukonskoye, Melespolye and Nizhnekonskoye, the city of Ustvashsk was formed , which became a county center. On September 10, 1921, by a resolution of the presidium of the executive committee and the joint plenum of the Mezensky and Ust-Vash district executive committees, a decision was made to transform the county town of Ustvashsk into the village of Leshukonskoye and to abolish Ust-Vash district, with the transfer of six of its volosts to the Mezensky district. On February 6, 1922, the decision was approved by a decree of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee [1] .
