Peace Sells ... but Who's Buying? ( Rus. The world is for sale, but who buys it? ) is the second studio album of the American thrash metal band Megadeth , released in 1986 . At that time, the group recorded on the Combat Records label , and the first version of the album was released under the auspices of this company (under the name Peace Diffs ... but Who's Buyin?, Or also Peace Sells Combat Mix ), which can be found as a bootleg on the Internet. But soon, Capitol Records redeems the rights to the album, which eventually goes under its brand.

Professional rock critic Steve Hugh wrote that Peace Sells ... is a mixture of “ punk political opinion with a dark, threatening heavy metal worldview” [1] .
On the cover of the album against the background of red-orange tones shows the UN General Assembly , destroyed during a nuclear attack. In the foreground is Vic Ruttlehead (the mascot of the group), leaning against a sign that says “For Sale”. The nameplate is a hint that the UN is corrupt. It is also ideologically connected with the name of the album, which translates as “The world is for sale ... but who buys it?”
In an article published in Reader's Digest magazine , band leader Dave Mustaine changed the album name to Peace Would Sell But No One Would Buy It ( “The world is for sale, but no one is ready to buy it” ) [2] .
“As long as people continue to steal, mutilate and treat each other badly, you can point to this and say:“ Look, this is wrong. ” Of course, we sing about it, but we choose a negative approach to what we sing about. “Hey, the devil is here, but he is an idiot. That is why he is buried in mud "" (Mustaine, 1987 ) [3] .

Wake Up Dead
This is a song about a man who cheats on his wife (or girlfriend). He sneaks into his house secretly, because if his wife finds out that he has a mistress, she will kill him [4] . In it, Dave mentions the name of his then beloved - Diana.
The Conjuring
This song describes the ritual of concluding a deal between a man and the devil, which, perhaps, took place in the life of Mustaine, since he was fond of witchcraft and Satanism at this stage of his career [5] .
Peace Sells
The title track of the album is Mustaine’s way to dispel many stereotypes about Megadeth fans and metal bands in general. Dave refutes the accusations of laziness, anti-government and anti-religious sentiments.
The bass part of this song was played for a long time in the screen saver before the news on the MTV channel.
The phrase “It's still“ We the People “, right?” Is a reference to the preamble to the US Constitution , which states: “ We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America " the people of the United States in order to form a better Union, establish justice, guarantee internal peace, ensure joint defense, promote general prosperity and secure the good of freedom for us our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America ") [6] .
Devil's Island
This song expresses the thoughts of a prisoner on Devil's Island, who was sentenced to death [7] .
Good Mourning / Black Friday
The song is about drummer Dijon Carraters , who played in Megadeth before Gar Samuelson . He was dismissed from the group because he was embarrassed by his family, race and upbringing, which did not suit the rest of the team [8] .
Bad Omen
This track sings about people worshiping Satan . They hope to receive his blessing, and instead he sends demons to these people who rape and kill them, and Satan himself collects their souls [9] .
I Ain't Superstitious
This song is a cover of Willy Dixon’s song from I Am the Blues , released in 1970. [10]
My Last Words
Song about the game " Russian Roulette " [11] .
Popular Culture
The song “Peace Sells ...” took 11th place in the rating of “forty greatest metal songs” of channel VH1 [12] and played in the MTV news headline. She also hit the soundtracks of games such as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City , True Crime: Streets of LA , Rock Band 2 and NHL 10 .
