Born January 5, 1797 in Breslau . In 1813 he entered the West Prussian Grenadier Battalion, as part of the Silesian Army, he participated in the campaigns of 1813 and 1814 against Napoleon , and was awarded the Iron Cross for the difference in the battle of Montmiral .
Continuing his service in the infantry, Vogel in 1841 was promoted to majors . On March 18, 1848, during the March Revolution in Berlin, he was wounded in street battles, but this wound did not prevent him from serving the campaign in Holstein , where he commanded the Guards Rifle Battalion. In 1850 he was appointed chief of staff of the 3rd Army Corps. In 1851, he received the rank of colonel and in 1855, major general , with the appointment of the commander of the 2nd Guards Infantry Brigade. Produced in 1858 as Lieutenant General Vogel at the same time headed the 5th Infantry Division.
In the Danish war of 1864, Vogel first took part as the chief of staff of the Union Army, but in April he was appointed to command all the troops invading Jutland , and then was the governor of this province and the commander of the 7th Army Corps. For merits in the Danish war he was awarded the Order of Pour le mérite and in 1865 received the rank of general from infantry.
In the 1866 campaign, Vogel was entrusted with military operations against the Allied forces . Commanding the Maine army, he quickly occupied the kingdom of Hanover , forced the Hanoverian army, after the battle of Langensaltz , to surrender to surrender and moved to Fulda . Having met with the Bavarians at Dermbach and Gunfeld, Vogel crossed the Rönskie Hills and on July 10 won at Hamelburg, Kissingen and Waldashach, and on the 16th he occupied Frankfurt . Despite these successes, the main Prussian apartment was dissatisfied with Vogel's actions, as they often did not meet the instructions received and were not energetic enough. Therefore, on July 19 he was recalled from the Maine Army and given the appointment of the Governor General in Bohemia .
In the fall of 1866, Vogel took command of the 1st Army Corps, and in April 1867 he participated in the founding Diet of the North German Union as a deputy of the Reichstag from Koenigsberg .
In 1868, Vogel was suddenly deprived of command and remained out of work until July 1870, when he was appointed governor general of the coastal provinces. After the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-1871, Vogel was governor in Königsberg .
In 1873 he retired. Died April 6, 1885 at the Dolzig estate in Brandenburg .
In 1889, the 56th Infantry Regiment received his name.
Since 1829, Vogel von Falkenstein was married to Louise nee Gertner, their son Maximilian was a Prussian general from infantry.
