Biography

Born in St. Petersburg in 1905. The son of an architect, civil engineer, heating and ventilation specialist Sergei Vladimirovich Banige . In 1930 he graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Civil Engineers . At the same time he studied at the Leningrad Conservatory in piano.

He worked in various design organizations of Leningrad. In 1936-1941 he led the architectural and art workshop " Lenizo ". He was engaged in the study of monuments of ancient Russian architecture, folk architecture of the Russian North . In 1941-1943, in the besieged Leningrad, he worked as the chief engineer of emergency repair workshops. In 1943, he was arrested and sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment. He served his conclusion in special prisons in Leningrad and Moscow, performing architectural and engineering work.

Since 1953, the architect of the Rostov restoration site of the Yaroslavl special scientific and restoration production workshops. Under his leadership, after the hurricane of August 1953, the Assumption Cathedral , the belfry, the walls and towers of the Kremlin, the White Chamber and other buildings of the Rostov Kremlin were restored . Recreated the half-dismantled Red Chamber.

Candidate of Art History (1964).

In 1964 he entered the post of chief architect of the Vologda restoration workshops. According to his project, among others, the oldest building of the city was restored - St. Sophia Cathedral . Under his leadership, the fallen walls of the Vologda Bishop's House were straightened and strengthened.

The last years of his life, V. S. Banige worked in Leningrad , leading the architectural and restoration workshop in the Leningrad branch of the Institute of Hyproteatr . It is worth noting the work to recreate the Marley Palace and Park Ensemble in the Lower Park of Peterhof .

V. S. Banige is the author of several printed works devoted to the history and architectural and artistic monuments of Rostov and Vologda.

He died in May 1973, was buried in the Northern cemetery of St. Petersburg : the 31st Coniferous Section, the 26th row (the last, along the road), grave No. 20, a monument-stela of red granite with epitaphs and a photo on enamel. Together with V. S. Banige, his sister (?) Banige Natalya Sergeevna (1910-1978) was buried.
