The Baltic University in exile functioned in Germany in 1946-1949 in camps for displaced people, where after the end of World War II there were many refugees from Estonia , Latvia and Lithuania .

History
The university began operating on March 14, 1946 in Hamburg (the British zone of German occupation ). At the end of the first semester, there were 1,025 students (154 of them were ethnic Russians) and 131 teachers (25 of them were Russians). UNRRA , the World Lutheran Federation and other organizations provided financial and other necessary support to the university. In early 1947, the university moved to the premises of the former Luftwaffe school in Pinneberg and became known as the Learning Center for Displaced Persons . The first rector of the Baltic University was the Estonian astronomer Ernst Epik , later replaced by the Lithuanian archaeologist Jonas Puzinas lit. Jonas Puzinas . The university was closed in September 1949, since by this time the majority of university students and teachers had left Germany for permanent residence in other countries [1] .
A total of 76 students graduated from the Baltic University, of which 53 are Latvians, 16 Lithuanians and 7 Estonians. Many others continued their education at other universities.
The Baltic University for Displaced Persons with approximately 170 full-time professors and 1200 students in eight faculties and 13 departments worked for three semesters [2] .
University Structure
The university was headed by the president and vice president, as well as three rectors - one from each of the countries for refugees from which the university was created. The faculties were created:
