Biography

Born in Mstör, in the family of the hereditary icon painter I. V. Bryagin [2] .

He studied at the icon-painting workshop and in the private art studio of Pamansky; attended various art circles.

For a long time he was an icon painter and restorer in Moscow with the collector I. S. Ostroukhov , and in St. Petersburg at the Russian Museum . As one of the largest restorers, he was invited in 1912 to clear the “Trinity” Rublev .

After the revolution, he participated in the restoration of frescoes in the Moscow Kremlin .

In 1923 he returned to Mstera, where the "Artel of Old Russian Painting" was formed. Then he left for Vologda, but since 1931 he again worked in Mstör - in the proletarian art cooperative. By his work, Bryagin represented the second line of development of the miniature miniature , different from the Fang. At this time, he created miniatures: "Deer Hunting" (1933), "Fight" (1934), "Bakhchisarai Fountain" (1936). In 1939 he again left for Vologda.

Together with V. I. Fedyshin and N. I. Fedyshin, he stood at the origins of the collection and scientific restoration of the Vologda icon painting . In 1927-1930 he worked in Vologda . Then, after a break due to the cessation of funding by Gostorg , at his own request and the recommendation of the Central State Restoration Workshops, he was again invited as a full-time restorer of the Vologda Regional Museum of Local Lore , where he again worked from 1939 to 1948 [3] .

He made an invaluable contribution to saving the masterpieces of the Vologda icon painting from destruction, destruction and sale abroad in the 1930s. He took an active part in the preservation of the icons of the Vologda Museum during the war, the evacuation, restoration of the remaining monuments, and the organization of exhibition exhibitions. After the war, together with N. I. Fedyshin organized an exhibition of icon painting as part of the Vologda Museum-Reserve. [3]
