Mikhail Nikolaevich Ostrovsky ( 1827 - 1901 ) - Russian statesman; served as minister of state property in the reign of Emperor Alexander III (1881-1892). Member of the Council of State ; Honorary Member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences [1] , Chairman of the Committee of the Museum of Applied Knowledge (St. Petersburg); Secretary of State , Actual Privy Counselor (since May 15, 1883); honorary member of various societies.

Biography

 
M.N. Ostrovsky

Born in Zamoskvorechye in the family of a nobleman in the first generation (from the clergy ); his elder brother is playwright A. N. Ostrovsky

In 1844 he graduated from the 1st Moscow Gymnasium ; in 1848 - the law faculty of Moscow University with the degree of candidate . He began his service on April 26, 1849, under the Simbirsk civil governor. From 1854, he served in the office of the State Comptroller V. A. Tatarinov , participating in the introduction of control reform; He went from an official of special assignments of the VIII class to a comrade of state controller, from April 17, 1871 . He sent for audits to Vladimir , Tula , Kaluga , Yaroslavl , Kostroma , Pskov , Vilna , Grodno and Kovno provinces , as well as the Kingdom of Poland . In 1877, he audited the actions of the field control of the Caucasian Army. From 1864 - State Councilor ; since 1870 - Privy Councilor; since 1872 - senator , present in the general meeting of 4. 5, and the Senate boundary department. In 1876 he was granted to the State Secretaries of His Imperial Majesty . In 1878, in connection with his appointment as a member of the State Council (to the Department of State Economy), he left the Office of the State Audit Office.

Memory

Ostrovsky baths in Zheleznovodsk are named after M. N. Ostrovsky [5] . As Minister of State Property of the Russian Empire , Ostrovsky did a lot to improve the resorts of the Caucasian Mineral Waters [6] .
