OKB-51 - the name of the experimental design bureaus of different chief designers at the plant No. 51 NKAP-MAP.
The first of OKB-51 was the N. N. Polikarpov Design Bureau, transferred in 1940 after A. I. Mikoyan’s Design Bureau was separated from it from Plant No. 1 to Plant No. 51 (now named after P. P. O. Sukhoi ).
After the death of N. N. Polikarpov (07/30/1944), on October 19, 1944, V. N. Chelomei was appointed director and chief designer of plant No. 51, who was entrusted with the development of cruise missiles.
According to the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR of February 19, 1953, OKB-51 with a pilot plant were transferred to OKB-155 , becoming its branch.
In November 1953, the territory of the OKB-155 branch was determined as the base for the restored OKB P.O. Sukhoi , which is still located on this territory. In February 1954, the Design Bureau of P.O. Sukhoi and the experimental plant again received No. 51 in the MAP system of the USSR.
