Origin

He was born in the family of a doctor August Ivanovich Tim (1794-1869), an inspector of hospitals in the Ural mountain district, a real state adviser (since 1863).

Karl August Thieme graduated from the medical faculty of the University of Leipzig . In 1824 he arrived in Russia . Having passed the exam at the Medical and Surgical Academy for the title of doctor, in 1826 he entered the military medical service as a junior doctor of the 2nd Cadet Corps . In 1827, he accepted Russian citizenship and married the daughter of the head of the Zlatoust state-owned factories A. A. Agte , Alexandra Adolfovna (1803-1852) - a graduate of the Catherine Institute in St. Petersburg. In April 1828 they had a daughter, Anna, and at the beginning of the next year they went to the Urals - Tim was appointed to the Rastorguev plants of the Perm Mining Administration. In December 1829, he was transferred to the Zlatoust weapons factory . They lived in Zlatoust until 1839, when Tim was appointed inspector of the Novgorod Medical Board after defending his doctoral dissertation at Kazan University . In Zlatoust seven children were born: Vladimir (1830-1833); George (1831-1910); Elizabeth (1832—?); Nikolai (1833-1834?); Herman (1835-1915); Alexandra (1836—?) And Ivan. Daughter Sofia was born on January 2, 1840, after the family moved to Novgorod. In 1840, Karl Augustovich Tim was elevated to noble dignity and, with his wife and children, was included in the 3rd part of the noble genealogy of the Orenburg province .

Biography

In 1858, Ivan Augustovich Timé graduated from the St. Petersburg Institute of the Corps of Mining Engineers .

In 1859-1866 he worked at the factories of the Urals , and in 1866–70 at the factories of the Donbass (see Lugansk foundry ).

In 1870-1915 (intermittently), professor at the St. Petersburg Institute of Mining Engineers Corps .

In 1873-1917, a member of the Mining Scientific Committee and a consultant to the St. Petersburg Mint .

The founder of mining mechanics as a science, developed the theory, rules for calculating and constructing steam hammers , iron rolling machines, water turbines and other machines of the mining industry, made basic recommendations for their operation. Designed classic hydraulics courses, steam engines and boilers. Developed recommendations on the use of water energy in the mining industry.

He died on November 5, 1920 in Petrograd .

Scientific Papers

Published over 600 scientific papers.

Some works: “The resistance of metals and wood to cutting” (1870), “The memoir on planing of metals” (1877) and “The formation of shavings with plastic materials” (1884) played an important role in creating the theory of cutting of metals and wood. Of great importance for the development of mechanical engineering were the works “The Practical Course of Steam Engines” (vols. 1–2, 1886–87), “The Hydraulics Course” (vols. 1–2, 1891–94) and “Fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering” (vol. 1– 2, 1883–85).

Composition “Mining Mechanics. The reference book for mining engineers and technicians in the mining part ”(1879) for many years was the reference book of Russian mining engineers.

Wife: Varvara Valeryanovna, nee Phenin (1852-1928). Their kids:

  • Anna Ivanovna, in the marriage of Gurdova-Tima (1877-1972) - actress, artist
  • Elizaveta Ivanovna Timé (1884-1968) - dramatic actress of the Alexandrinsky Theater, director, theater teacher, People's Artist of the RSFSR (1957)
