History

Coat of arms of the city of Petrovsk (1778)

The first mention of the village of Petrovsky dates from 1207 . In 1777 it became the city of Petrovsky - the center of Petrovsky district . However, Petrovsky Uyezd was liquidated in 1796 , and Petrovsk became a provincial city of Rostov Uyezd [7] . In 1925, Petrovsk lost the status of a city and became the village of Petrovsky [8] , and since 1943 - the urban-type settlement [9] .

In 1935-1959, Petrovskoye was the center of the Petrovsky district , formed from parts of the Borisoglebsky, Pereslavsky and Rostov regions.

At the end of the 1850s, the city had 1,400 inhabitants and about 220 houses [10] .
