The stream flows in the west of Dortmund , its valley is surrounded by the urban areas of , , and , to which the valley administratively belongs [1] . Historically, to the north of the stream there were narrow valleys of streams - tributaries of the Delligiger-Bach, to the south - a mixed deciduous forest [1] . Due to human activities, the once-homogeneous terrain turned into a mosaic of different landscapes - in the valley there are forests, meadows, swamps and plowed fields [1] . The modern channel of the stream is man-made, laid in 1982-1986 as part of a land restoration program, the first of its kind in the big Dortmund [2] . In the upper course of the stream, the natural territory of the Dellwigger-Bach Valley (German: Naturschutzgebiet Dellwiger Bach ), which has been protected since 1986 [1], has an area of 112 ha [2] [1] . On its territory nesting warbler , green woodpecker , small spotted woodpecker , owl , clintukh , buzzard . Various amphibians and viviparous lizards live on the stream and the lake arranged in its course [2] . Along the banks of the brook there are lake reeds , pond , wild daffodils and swamp irises [2] . According to the German scale, the water quality of Dellwigher-Bach belongs to category II (Stufe II) - moderately polluted, clean enough for most aquatic organisms to live [1] .
The stream and the valley are named for the von Delvig family, who owned the surrounding lands from 1197 to 1772. Von Delvig Castle was destroyed during the Thirty Years War ; a modern “ castle on the water ” in a park on the banks of the Dellwiger Bach (German: Haus Dellwig ) - built in 1658–1690 [3] . Since 1904, the castle was owned by the company , since 1978 - the municipality of Dortmund [3] . In one of the outbuildings there is a local history museum, but the main estate complex occupied by an agricultural enterprise is closed for visiting [3] .
