Biography

Born December 25, 1919 in the village of Kuzmin of the Gorodetsky district of the Khmelnitsky region in a peasant family. Ukrainian. Member of the CPSU since 1953 . He graduated from junior high school. Since 1935 he worked on a collective farm .

In 1939, drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . In the battles of World War II since 1941. He fought as part of the 1st Guards fortified area on the South, 3rd and 4th Ukrainian fronts.

In March 1944, the troops of the 28th Army went on the offensive in the area of ​​Nikolaev - Ochakovo. On March 15, 1944, machine gunners under the command of Y. S. Alekseev successfully crossed the Bugsky estuary and captured a bridgehead on its right bank. Consolidating their success, the fighters stormed the enemy’s very fortified point on the banks of the Estuary - the village of Luporeva Balka.

The Nazis pulled up more than two regiments and counterattacked the position of a group of daredevils. Brave warriors in a short time repelled several counterattacks. But the enemy continued to harass. At the cost of great effort, the Nazis managed to wedge themselves into the group’s position. There was a threat to the environment.

At this critical moment in the battle of the Guard, Sergeant Ya. S. Alekseev showed personal initiative and courage. Under strong enemy artillery and machine gun fire, he took up an open firing position with an easel machine gun and began to shoot Nazis point blank.

The enemy opened mortar fire on the daredevil. A gunner was killed by a fragment of a mine. But Y. S. Alekseev took a seat at the machine gun and began to mow the Nazis, preventing them from moving forward. Surrounded on all sides, Y. S. Alekseev continued to shoot. He was shot in the leg. But the daredevil's machine gun did not stop. A shell exploded nearby. The machine gun was damaged. Ya. S. Alekseev is shell-shocked. Then, having gathered his last strength, he threw a grenade into a group of fascists.

Inspired by the feat of the sergeant's guard, other soldiers rushed at the enemy and defeated him. In this fierce battle, Y. S. Alekseev personally destroyed about 50 Nazis. Heavily wounded and shell-shocked, Y. S. Alekseev was sent to a field hospital.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 3, 1944, for the exemplary performance of combat missions of the command and the courage and heroism of the guard shown, Sergeant Yakov Savvovich Alekseev was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 3439).

After the end of World War II, the foreman Y. S. Alekseev was discharged . He returned to the Gorodetsky district. He worked at a sugar factory, then - deputy chairman of a collective farm in the village of Bedrikevka. In 1960 he moved to Poltava. He worked as a controller at one of the industrial enterprises. He did a lot of work on military-patriotic education of youth. He died on January 18, 1998.
