Biography

In 1900, A.V. Vladimirsky graduated from the medical faculty of Kiev University and was appointed resident of the clinic of nervous diseases at the medical faculty. In 1905 he defended his doctoral dissertation and was enrolled as a scholarship holder to prepare for the professorship.

Since 1908 he worked at the St. Petersburg Neurological Institute under the guidance of V. M. Bekhterev . In 1910, he was elected to the Department of Psychology of the St. Petersburg Frebel Institute and in the same year headed the auxiliary school he created at the Neurological Institute. In 1913, he participated in the International Hygienic Congress in Dresden, where he demonstrated his own exhibits on experimental personality research, awarded medals.

In 1914-1918 he was at the front as a doctor. In 1918 he was elected a teacher in the department "Anomalies and deficiencies in the development of a child’s personality" of the Kiev Pedagogical Institute . Since 1919 he worked as a teacher at the Don Pedagogical Institute . In 1922 he returned to Kiev, where he was the head of the office of individual pedagogy and conducted active teaching activities, gave lectures at the department of individual pedagogy and defectology at the Institute of Public Education.

In 1923, he was elected professor of the Medical Institute for the Department of Education Hygiene; also headed the department at the Institute of Social Education.

Contribution to the development of domestic audiopsychology

One of the first experimental and pedagogical studies of deaf-mute children is the work of A. V. Vladimirsky “Mental performance at different hours of the school day. An experimental study of pupils of the St. Petersburg School of the Deaf-Mute. ” In the study, the author compares various categories of subjects - deaf and hearing, boys and girls, children of different ages, they, but put in different conditions, studied in different parts of their activity. Such modifications in the experiments made it possible to determine the effect of various factors on the course and results of the process under study. Important conclusions of the study were that it was possible to characterize the performance characteristics of deaf-mute children in various parts of the day for various indicators; uneven fluctuations of various aspects of their activity during the study time per day were shown; clarified the impact of switching from training to work. The fact of the deafness of the deaf and hearing in mental performance was recorded, since it is much more difficult for them to concentrate. The study showed that these features of the mental performance of the deaf-mute are gradually smoothed out in the learning process.

The research of A.V. Vladimirsky is of great importance, since a great deal of factual material was collected and systematized in it. Prior to this study, the mental performance of the deaf-mute was not studied experimentally. A. V. Vladimirsky influenced the formation of the pedagogical views of the famous defectologist I. A. Sokolyansky :

... I. A. Sokolyansky actively attended meetings of the progressive public organization “Parent's Circle” (Bolshevik appearance led by L. R. Menzhinsky). Here Ivan Afanasevich heard a report by A.V. Vladimirsky “Without light, without sound, without speech”, dedicated to modern foreign achievements in the field of teaching deaf-deaf-mute children. This report had a great influence on the future scientific activity of I. A. Sokolyansky, giving rise to the idea of ​​the correct scientific interpretation of the nature of the deaf-blind and mute and the scientific foundations of their education and training. A.V. Vladimirsky showed in his work that the training of the deaf-blind is possible on the basis of the teachings of I.P. Pavlov, and this actually determined the direction of thoughts of I.A. Sokolyansky

In his works, A.V. Vladimirsky noted the leading role of the social environment in the formation of personality. A.V. Vladimirsky analyzed in detail in his works children with disabilities and outlined the reasons for their lag and ways of correction.
