The leaves of the upper pair are sessile or almost sessile, the rest on the petioles. Leaf blades are oblong-ovate, blunt, whole-edge or fuzzy [4] .

Flowers in false whorls , on short legs. They are collected in apical, dense, spike - shaped inflorescences . Bracts broadly ovoid or almost round, often dark purple. Calyx is two - lipped, with short sharp teeth, the corolla is also two-lipped, purple, 1.5-2 times longer than the calyx, with a straight tube, with a hairy ring inside. The upper lip of the corolla is helmet-like [4] .

Fruits - ovoid, trihedral, shiny nuts .

The plant contains vitamin C , due to which it is used in folk medicine as a hemostatic and for colds .

A study of the antitumor properties of medicinal plants showed that the ursolic acid and carophyllin contained in the blackhead suppress the growth and spread of various types of cancer. [five]
