Marriage to Alfonso VII of Castile
In 1151 , ambassadors arrived in Altenburg from the recently widowed (after the death of Berengaria of Barcelona in 1149), King of Castile and Leon Alfonso VII , who proclaimed himself emperor of all Spain and wished to become related to the royal house of Germany. Ryksa was a princess of royal blood, as her mother was the unmarried sister of the then King of Germany Konrad III and the aunt of the future emperor Frederick Barbarossa . The wedding took place from October to December 1152 . From this marriage two children were born:
- Fernando ( 1153/1154 - after 1155 )
- Sancha ( 1154/1156 - 1208 ), who in 1174 married King Aragon Alfonso II
August 21, 1157 Alfonso of Castile died.
Marriage with Raimund Berenguer II of Provence
After the death of his first husband, Ryksa did not have a relationship with his stepsons, the kings of Castile Sancho III and Leon, Ferdinand II . First, in 1159, she went to Aragon, to the parents of the groom of her little daughter Sanchi, Alfonso, and then to Turin , to her cousin, Emperor Frederick Barbarossa , who was there on another Italian campaign. There, in 1161, Count of Provence Raimund Berenguer II arrived with his uncle, Count of Barcelona Ramon Berenguer IV , so that the emperor as overlord of Provence confirmed his rights. Frederick was interested in strengthening the influence of the empire in Provence; for his part, the Count of Provence needed a strong ally, since the powerful local clan Bo was constantly claiming his throne. Therefore, negotiations began on marriage between Ryksa and Raimund Berenguer, ending a few months later in the same 1161 marriage.
From this marriage, the only daughter was born - Dulce (c. 1163 - 1172 ), who inherited her father's possessions as the Countess of Provence Dulce II .
Raimund Berenguer II died during the siege of Nice in the spring of 1166 .
Further fate
Regarding the fate of Ryksy, there are different versions. According to one, she married Raimund V , Count of Toulouse , who even specifically divorced his former wife Constance of France to get an opportunity to claim Provence. On the other - instead (or after) for Albrecht II, Count of Everstein from Germany, having given birth to his son, the future Albrecht III. There is even an assumption that she left for Silesia , where by then her brothers had returned as princes. More or less reliably known only that she died on June 16, 1185 .
