Biography
The son of Arturo Alessandri , President of Chile in 1920–25 and 1932–37, and Rosa Rodriguez.
In 1919 he graduated from the University of Chile with a degree in civil engineering .
In 1947 - 1950 - working as a finance minister, he managed to reform the economy, reducing inflation from 57% to 17%.
In the Parliamentary elections of 1957 he was elected senator from Santiago .
In the 1958 presidential election , he ran as an independent candidate, although he had the support of the Conservative and Liberal parties and won, gaining 31.2% of the vote.
In the 1970 elections, he won the 2nd place with 35.30% of the votes, losing to Salvador Allende .
