Biography

Already in 1030, Pons possessed great power in the county of Albi . Around 1037, he presented many allodial lands, churches and castles, including the counties of Albi and Nîmes , as a wedding gift to his wife Major of Navarre.

In 1037, he inherited the Marquise of Gautia and the county of Toulouse from his father, Guillaume III . In the marquise of Gothia, his co-ruler was Berta Ruergsky . He was also influential in the county of Provence through his mother Emma , and he could use the title of Count of Provence . The Earl of Provence was Pons's brother Bertrand I after Emma's death in 1063, when Pons had already passed away. However, Raimund IV of Toulouse and his successors subsequently bore this title.

In 1038, Pons bought the bishopric of Albi , the possession of the Viscounts of Albi from the house of Trenkavel . In 1040, he donated to Cluny Abbey all his property from Dien. In 1047, it is referred to as the Palatine of Moissac .

Pons died in 1060 in Toulouse and was buried in the abbey of Saint-Zhernin . His successor was the eldest son Guillaume IV of Toulouse . Pons left a will, which states that if Guillaume IV dies without offspring, the entire inheritance will pass to his youngest son, Raimund , who later became the Count of Toulouse .
