Title
The name of the village comes from two rivers flowing through its territory. Shelang in translation from Mari ( Gornomar. Shalangy , Lugovomar . Shalege ) means buzzard . During the founding years, Shelang had other names: "Nikolskoe" and "Christ Nativity".

Attractions
In the village there is the “Two-altar Church of the Nativity of Christ” [5] , which was built in 1783-1786 at the expense of the landowner M.N. Naryshkina. In the first half of the 19th century, a bell tower was added to the temple.
In the Soviet years, the temple was closed and a gym was made. Stucco with ancient frescoes was repelled. In the early 2000s, the temple was transferred to the Kazan diocese. Currently, divine services are performed in the courtyard of the temple, since the floors in the temple under the arch of the cathedral are broken.
The temple is now restored (bells are also installed) by Father Alexei and services are held in the church on Sundays and church holidays.
